What is an IP address?
It is the address other machines use to send data back to you. Your ISP assigns one to your connection, and every server you contact sees it, because a reply has nowhere to go without it. It is not secret and it was never designed to be.
Why does the location look wrong?
IP geolocation reads the registration record for the address block, not your device. If your carrier registers a whole region to one city, that city is what every database reports. Mobile and CGNAT ranges are the worst offenders and can be out by hundreds of miles.
Why do I have two different addresses?
Your connection is dual stack: it holds an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address at once, and a site uses whichever it prefers. This matters when you proxy, because tools that only route IPv4 leak the real IPv6 address to any site that asks for it.
Does my IP address change?
Most residential connections get a dynamic address that changes when the lease expires or the router reboots. Business lines and hosting usually get a static one. Either way the change is your ISP decision, not yours.
Can a website identify me from my IP alone?
Not by name. It gets your approximate area, your ISP and your ASN, and it can join those to everything else your browser reveals — timezone, language, screen size, fonts. The IP is one signal in a fingerprint, and rarely the strongest one.
Does this page log my address?
No. The site is static files with no backend, so there is nothing here to log to. The lookup runs in your browser against a public API, and the browser details on this page never leave the page.
How do I change my IP address?
Rebooting the router sometimes earns a new one from your ISP. For a specific city, a specific carrier, or a different address per request, you route through a proxy — which replaces the address a site sees with the one you picked.
